The Shawshank Redemption

Shawshank Redemption was probably the longest movie I had to sit through. I thought the movie could have been much shorter and maybe more interesting. In the begging of the film i thought that some of the scenes in the movie was unnecessary such as when he almost got thrown off the roof just for giving a suggestion to the guards. Overall the movie was okay, i thought the acting was very good and the ending was surprising. I thought that the Warden and the guards were probably the most horrible people in the entire prison. The part that I enjoyed the most was when prison created a library and how uneducated people started to slowly become smarter.

Avatar

Avatar is a very different movie then what people are used to watching. The reason why it is different is because the setting of the movie is not on plant earth, the characters are blue, and have a different point of view on the earth. Such as the characters on Pandora have a different view on life, and the place that they live in they respect the where they live, and the tree of life is something sacred to them. In today's society people don't respect the earth that they live in and pollute it and destroy the earth. There are many people that don't believe in god, and don't trust other people.
The sound effects in the movie was incredible, an examples are the dragons. When the dragons are flying the audience can hear the wings flapping. As this is happening the audience feels that they are in Pandora, and are standing next to the dragon. Also the explosions the audience feels that they are in the battle fighting for there lives and as they are hearing the explosions they want to help Pandora and feel that what the "Americans" are doing is wrong.
Avatar is a wonderful movie and the film has a moral to the story to respect the environment, and the people that live in the earth.

Mob Movies

The three gangster films were very unique in there own way. In the Bronx Tale the Italian gang was very small and was only known in there neighborhood. But the Godfather and Goodfellas the gangs were universal and everybody knew about them. Everybody came to the "Godfather" for favors such as to kill someone or threaten them in some weird way. In Goodfellas the gang was popular but nobody respected them as much as the Godfather. Another difference was the way the gangs made money. In Goodfellas they used drugs and weapons but in the Godfather they refused to use drugs but used weapons and other things to make money in there "business". In The Bronx Tale you don't really see how the gang made money, except when they were gambling with horses, or playing poker.
Beetween the three movies the major diffrence is that Goodfellas is a true story. The Godfather and Bronx Tale is Hollywoods own version of the Italian mafia. In Goodfellas there is more violence, and more drugs. The audience also sees how everybody in the mafia gets shot or ends up in prison or in Henrys case get saved and put into the witness protection program. Goodfellas has more reality in the movie even though it may look like its not a true story.
The streotyping in this movie was very origanial when it comes to gangsters and itailian mafias

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kan was a very interesting movie. I loved the camera effects in the movie especially when he drops the snow globe and the camera takes the audience into the view of the broken snow globe. Also in the beggining of the movie the camera zooms into a barbed wire which means that Kane is very personal and nobady knows who he really is. Then after Kane dies you see the whole world loves him and wanted him to become president and treated him as a god. The whole movie is very ironic. Then there is a detective who wants to know who Kane is behinde the cameras and his fame sadly in the end nobody knew who Kane really was outside of his carreer.

Vertigo

Hitchcock is a very interesting director he never sticks to one formula when it comes to movies every movie made by Hitchcock is very different and unique especially Vertigo. The film is very distinctive and has a lot of suspense and action. However, the movie does go by slowly but is very unforgettable and is a wonderful movie. I love how the movie is shaped on Scotties fear on heights, also the way he is tested by his fear and then later on how he conquers his phobia. Hitchcock uses a very complicated story and plot but i loved the music that was composed by Bernard Herman. Because of the music the film creates a very suspenseful, and makes the whole movie very scary and unforgettable. This film is extremely different because the audience has to pay attention for the details in the film that is very important. An example is "Madlin's" necklace if the viewer did not pay attention to the movie then they would have no idea how Scottie would have found out about the real murder.
Jimmy Stewart does a wonderful job playing his role. He makes the audience to sympathize completely with him, even as we disagree with many of his character's actions and decisions. Kim Novak is completely believing in a this difficult two-part-role, Vertigo would not have been memorable without her fine performance. The rest of the cast that have the smaller roles, but are also very good, especially Scottie's old friend, who provides important insight into Scottie's character. Overall the film is very good and I loved it

Notorious

Notorious was not a very good film by Hitchcock. When i think of Alfred Hitchcock
I see him as a director that produces scary, and thriller movies not a spy movie. Hitchcock's sad attempt to create such an average spy movie was very upsetting. I have seen many spy movies but it was very similar to almost every spy movie. Hitchcock's is better then a simple spy movie, he created very good movies but this movie is his worst one. The acting, and the plot was terrible. The main actress started to get annoying by the first scene, and the love story that Hitchcock attempted to produce between the two spies was an epic fail.
However, I did like the camera work during the party how the camera started from the view of the staircase into zooming in the key in her hand. Also how her "husband" and her mother-in-law started to poison her and then as she is slowly dying then she sees her husband and the mother-in-law slowly fading away. Then once she is about to pass out you see the whole living room and then you just see her fall to the ground.
Overall Notorious was a very interesting movie but Hitchcock could have done much better in the movie. In today's era almost every movie is a spy movie, and when a teenager sees a spy movie from the 40s she is not shocked by it. I love all of Hitchcock's scary movies but I expect more from Hitchcock then another spy movie.

Shadow of a Doubt

Shadow of a Doubt was a very interesting movie. I loved how young Charlie was slowly unraveling the secret behind Uncle Charlie, then when she found out and the suspense grew between them. The way that Young Charlie found out was extremely suspenseful, how the library was closing and you see the lights go off through the window one by one. Without the music that particular scene would have been very boring. Then when Young Charlie read the newspaper, that particular scene was very dramatic especially when she looks at the ring and sees the inscription and realizes that it was from the woman that he killed.
Also how in the begging of the movie you see Young Charlie extremely proud to have an uncle like him, and how Uncle Charlie was like a god to the family. Then the second she found out the truth she started to stay away from him as much as possible. When she has a hysteria at the dinner table she starts running for her life then when she finally told Uncle Charlie the truth she starts to picture him strangling things, and example is the napkin at the bar. When he is talking to her she completely spaces out and stars at the napkin in shock.
However in the end i expected more violence on the train rather then her just fighting back and throwing him off. The most suspenseful part of the whole movie is when the camera slowly zooms into Uncle Charlies face, and you hear his speech about how widows, then you hear Young Charlie say something then he turns to the camera and says ARE THEY? You don't really expect that from movie, a scene like that is very unforgettable.
