Freaks

Freaks is the weirdest movie i've ever seen. Its really sad how these people are disabled and are being thrown in the circus. However my faviorite two characters are the two midgets Harry Earles as Hans Daisy Earles as Frieda. They are adorable even though they are brother and sister, there acting was amazing and they just made the whole film. Even though Freaks creeped me out the plot was good, and the movie was very intresting to watch.

Alfred Hitchcock: Rear Window

I loved rear window, I think it is a very suspenseful, and exciting movie. I loved the way how Hitchcock was playing god. The way how he saw everything that the neighbors were doing. Also how he named his neighbors such as Mrs. Torso, or Mrs. Lonely Heart I thought that was rather comical. I also loved the nurse she was so funny how sarcastic she was to Hitchcock's character.
Rear Window reminded me of Disturbia, but I like Rear Window better. The reason why is because Rear window is more suspenseful like when the killer slowly walks up the stares. Then how the murder case slowly unravels during the film. Also when Hitchcock's girlfriend goes up to the murders apartment and how she gets caught and then the police came and rescued her. Then when the nurse and the girlfriend went to go and dig up the wife’s body and the audience thought that the guy was going to come and find them. Overall this movie was suspenseful
Another reason why Rear window was better then Disturbia because it was more realistic. For example in Disturbia there is no way that a teenage idiot will punch his Spanish teacher in the face, then getting a house arrest for the entire summer. Then watch the news and find out there is a crazy killer across the street. In Rear Window the guy breaks his leg which has nothing better to do but see what is across the street and finds out that he kills his wife.
This is my first Hitchcock Film and I absolutely love it. I hope that I will continue to watch his amazing movies.

Do the Right Thing

Do the Right thing was a very good movie. The reason why is because the film feels like you are in the streets in the Brooklyn watching everything that is going on. Especially when it was the hottest day in Brooklyn and when the people opened up the fire extinguisher and were spraying water all over the street. I felt that I was there tasting the water and enjoying the cool refreshing taste of the water.
Then later on in the movie when the camera angle was turned sideways as the persons point of view. Also how they showed the face so close it feels like the character is looking at you. The movie was also very surprising especially at the end.
I honestly didn’t expect that from the film. In the begging everybody loved Famous Sal’s Pizza. Then you see a drastic turning point by the end of the film, how everybody turned against Sal’s Pizza and completely burned down and crashed the restaurant. I didn’t think that the people were serious about boycotting Sal’s Pizza. However I was wrong.
The movie is very interesting because it shows the life of the other characters. Such as Mookie (Spike Lee) and how he works as a delivery boy for Sal’s Pizza but you see his personal life with his girlfriend and his son. The acting was amazing, and the film itself is unforgettable.

Traffic

My personal opinion of Traffic as that it was a good movie. I loved the drastic color change that the screen went through. Such as how bleak Mexico was and then how it changed to blue, during the court cases. I've never seen that before in movies, I thought that the dramatic change in colors made the movie more memorable.
This movie also changed my view on drugs. I always thought that the police didn't care about drugs, that drugs were just another problem nobody even bothered to solve. This movie showed me that people are trying to solve the smuggling of illegal drugs from Mexico to the USA. Also the way that the sixteen year old was smoking drugs showed me how disgusting and stupid drugs are. The movie then shows how drugs can take over your body and make you do stupid things just to obtain drugs.
I loved how the plot in Traffic, it is very surprising. Such as in the beginning of the movie how it was in Mexico and how Javier Rodriguez caught the drug dealers. Then he two detectives were caught in a semi-shootout. Then how Robert Wakefield
(Michael Douglas) daughter was addicted to drugs, which is ironic because Robert Wakefield is trying to prevent drugs from smuggling into the USA.
I think the whole movie is trying to say that nobody gets away clean when it come to drugs. Such as when Helena Ayala (Catherine Zeta-Jonas) thought she got away with killing the detectives partner and getting her husband out of jail but then she dies at the end. Overall the film was great, and is defiantly memorable in my life.

The Adventures of Robin Hood

Based on the famous English fairy tale, Robin of Locksley is a noble who is required to become a criminal when Prince John the attempts to take the throne from his missing brother. He escapes to Sherwood Forest where he assemble together his Merry Men and is called Robin Hood. He begins to steal from the rich and give back to the poor, the townsfolk that are heavily-taxed by the Sheriff of Nottingham. Meanwhile he still has to defend the throne. My opinion of Robin Hood is very good. I love the use of Technicolor in movies. Robin Hood is a good movie for all ages.

Long Voyage Home/ Raging Bull

My opinion of Long Voyage Home was terrible. I didn’t like the film at all I thought it needed more action. My attention was lost once I heard the music in the very beginning of the movie. However the one part in the movie that I thought was suspense full was when the guy wanted to escape the boat but at the end the guards caught him which sucked for the guy. Once again I really didn’t like the film.
Raging bull was interesting. My favorite sport to watch is boxing, so I liked this film. I thought the casting for the actors was great. Robert De Niro as Jake La Motta I think he did wonderful job acting, especially when he was arguing with his brother Joey (played by Joey Pesci), and at the boxing matches. Joey Pesci did a wonderful job playing Jake La Motta’s brother, I think that he was hysterical and made the entire movie humorous. However, Jake La Motta’s ex wife played by Cathy Moriarty was extremely annoying. I think she did a terrible job acting the only reason why she was hired as an actress was because of her looks. I also don’t like her character Vicky she cheated on Jake numerous tomes then ruined Jake La Motta’s relationship between him and his brother. Another reason why I liked the film was because my favorite director is Martin Scorsese. He did a wonderful job as a director and I loved how the film was in Black and White. A film that is in black and white is always memorable especially for a sixteen year old who is used to color films. I liked how the movie was more dramatic by the slow motion. Overall Raging Bull was a great movie and very unforgettable

Tristram Shandy. A Cock and Bull Story

The movie takes place on the set of a movie named "Tristram Shandy." In the beginning of the movie takes place in a makeup room, where Coogan and Brydon talk about their billing, and whether Brydon's teeth are too yellow. Coogan has the lead, playing both Tristram and his father, Walter. Brydon plays Tristram's uncle Toby, who gives his life to building a large outdoor model of the battlefield where, as a young man, he suffered a weird injury. The Widow Wadman (Anderson), who is considering marrying Toby, wants to know precisely how and, where was his wounded. "Just beyond the asparagus," Toby explains.
The movie is endearingly strange. There is a showing of some battle scenes in which dreary foot soldiers wander past the camera, looking like extras on their lunch break. And a scene in which a miniature unborn Tristram is seen inside a miniature womb. It reminds the life on a movie set, which for a few weeks or months to create. As the final credits roll, Coogan and Brydon are still engaged in their running contest of insults. The best part of the whole movie is when Tristram was a little boy and the babysitter closed the window on his…

Sherlock Jr.

The movie begins with an every day working man that is played by Buster Keaton. He works in a movie theater and is studying to be a detective. He and his enemy both show up on the doorstep of the girl generously giving boxes of candy. The rival has stolen a pocket watch from the girl's house to pay for his gift, but before Buster can put his detective skills to the test to solve the crime, he finds himself getting framed for the person that stole the watch. Unhappy, he goes back to work where he starts the film, then falls asleep. He "leaves" his body and enters the movie screen. In the movie Buster finds himself challenged in the movie. For example, he is about to sit at a park bench, when the picture switches to a snow pile. When the film is finished Buster, wakes up in the middle of a movie mystery story in which he plays the talented Sherlock Jr. A real detective with all the certainty that Buster lacks. He defeats certain death trails, solves the mystery and participates in exciting chases. Such as the one where he rides alone on the handlebars of a motorcycle, thinking that his devoted servant is driving, when the driver falls off in the beginning of the chase.

Sherlock Jr is one of my favorite silent moves because it is actually humorous. Especially at the end of the movie when Buster has his chance to finally kiss the girl. Now that he's back in the real world, Buster is confused on how to “make his move”. He peeks through the window in the projection booth to look at the film for instructions on how to kiss the girl. Buster still looks at film for ways to enhance his own dreary life. Then later Buster sees with the movie couple surrounded by children. Buster's puzzled face says it all.

The Purple Rose of Cario

Cecilia, a waitress in depression-age living in New Jersey, whose life is filled with stress from work and coming home to an violent, and unemployed husband. In order to escape from her life and marriage, Cecilia goes to the movies, at the local theater; The Purple Rose of Cairo has her going multiple times. On the worst day, after Cecilia lost her job, something new happens during the movie. The wall is broken, and Tom Baxter, a character in the movie, walks off the screen and into her life. The movie is ruined, people that are off and on screen start panicking, and Cecilia has a dilemma, having to choose between her husband, Tom Baxter, and Gil Shepherd, the actor who plays Baxter and who also wants a chance at her mind.

The Purple Rose of Cairo is a very old movie but is still true in today’s day because of the awful economic days that we live in. Such as those people who undergoing financial and emotional hardships. Even though the film doesn't quite give us the wonderful happily ever after ending that people would expect for a romantic comedy. It does bring out an important point about the magic of movies, and its control to take us to lands we'll never see, meet people we'd never know, and feel a natural value and kinship with people that can never exist. The Purple Rose of Cairo is a very magical movie. Especially the way that Cecilia, captures our minds, hearts and imaginations.
